Independent Homeschool Info
Independent Home School
(Sometimes referred to as "LEA")
This is one of the common options for homeschooling in Tennessee. In this option, you register your child with the local school board. You choose your own curriculum, but you must make an annual report to the school board stating that you fulfilled the 180 days/4 hours per day requirement. You must register your child annually. Independant Homeschoolers in 5th, 7th and 9th grades will be required to take the TCAP assessment at their local public school during their TCAP testing period in the Spring.
You must fill out and submit the Notice of Intent to Homeschool, every year before August 1st with your child's information and subjects to be taught. You do NOT have to list the specific curriculum you use.
At the end of the school year, you must submit a Homeschool Student Attendance Form yearly. The Attendance form simply asks you to check mark the days on which you taught.
For more information, please look at this Requirements page for Independent Homeschooling from the TN Dept of Ed website.
